It isn’t over yet

I know it’s been longer than ‘a while’. Many readers may not even get a chance to hear what I have to say and that doesn’t bother me. It would have when I first started, when all I wanted was people to read my comics but not so much anymore. I started this as a way for people to see my work and contact me. It turned into more than that. The story has evolved and I have every intention of continuing it.

To some I feel an explanation is necessary as to where I have been. I think some of my decline of the comic was when I took up a daily strip at my college newspaper “Mythical”. That, coupled with four studio art classes (Watercolor, Photography, Advanced Drawing and Intermediate Illustration) took more than just time and tears but beat me down creatively. So much so that I changed from a BFA in Illustration to a BA in Art with a minor in English.

I found out the hard way that Northern Illinois’ illustration program (perhaps the entire University) was not for me. By a random act of fate I saw a poster for the Disney College Program. Shortly after seeing a presentation I applied and come January I was there. I closed out the school year needing a break from college and also from art in general. I was creatively exhausted from having to produce and produce and produce so much that for a while I saw myself never picking up a pencil again.

So in January I came down to Florida and started working in Walt Disney World. No, not doing art, actually but custodial. It is actually more fun than one might consider, essentially I’m paid to wander around, sweep and speak to guests. I have really loved it down here but more and more my creativity has been itching to come out. I realized maybe art as a career isn’t for me, but abandoning art all together isn’t either. I enjoy it, in my own time, doing my projects and no one can take that from me.

Unfortunately I am down here till August and only have a laptop without Photoshop or a scanner. As I said though, I do have every intention of finishing. I have one more year when I return and no more art classes. In the mean time I am working on other things and having a great time. If nothing else it has been a nice vacation. Thank you all for reading, whether it’s your first or your last, I can only guaruntee it isn’t over yet.
